Girls Just Want To Train Dogs

Girls Just Want To Train Dogs is an all girl podcast, a best friend for and by girls in the dog training industry. A safe space for discussions about successes, struggles and all things girls. And dogs. Pet dogs, sport dogs and the dogs we pet on the vacations we never have.

We’re cleaning poop, buying iced coffees and want to to excel in dog sport, run our businesses and try to remember to eat while men on instagram won’t believe that our dogs can heel without a visible reward.

With Melanie from @caninedecoded on the Podcast we talk about how the science around dog training and behavior is in a shift right now and how that nuances what has been claimed being the "scientific truth" about dog training methods. Is all punishment triggering a fear response? Can a dog who always have to seek for a reward be free?
Melanie has studied microbes before and she almost ate cat litter from her desk during this conversation - which could be factors to disqualify her voice in this matter if you would disregard exactly everything else on her resume.

Should there be a place to talk about and warn about dog trainers, walkers or facilities where abuse, covering up accidents or ducking out of responsibility when it comes to care for the dogs? Dogs get starved, die or disappear in the care of professionals and many seem to get away with it with some silence and strong marketing.
We talk about the complexity of it, why it can turn into a shit show where people just throwing shade on trainers they have personal issues with or someone the force free world think are abusive and how that needs to be weighed against the need for information like this to be spoken out loud, for the dogs sake.

Both of us have rehomed dogs - what we call "wash them" - and still we're bashing people who wash too many dogs? Is this a complete hypocrity exposed, or do we have any valid points?
We believe that not all dogs are for everyone - but that a wider perspective on what a good dog is, and a more forgiving view on maturing would benefit all of ours development.

Albas dog bit a child! Does that mean that she's dangerous? How does a social and stable dog end up biting and how does one explain that, and even more important - take responsibility for it not happening again.
We talk about how drives are instincts and doesn't necessarily know the difference between bikes or prey - and how the future of the working dog, with all their drives, can be threatened if we don't respect them and their genetic potential.

We didn't die, but it felt like it was close for a while. We've been sick - taking turns cancelling on each other and being bed bound. But we're BACK! on todays episode we talk about some of the best and worst advise we've gotten - and if we followed them!
We would love to hear your takes on the best or worst advice you've gotten in the dog world.

Last episode we talked about that we need to take care of ourselves as we take care of our dogs - but does everyone take that great care of their dogs? Could we do better in sport, and pet dogs, and how do we navigate being around people we don't align with?
We talk about things we have done that we're ashamed of and Alba has gotten a lecture about how to not use her mic after this episode.

Emma & Alba are back for Season 2 of Girls Just Want To Train Dogs!
We talk about our summer (spoiler: we worked all summer) and our mental health.
Alba found a snake under her house and we try to figure out how we can be as good at taking care of ourselves as we are taking care of the dogs.

Ida has placed second on the world championship for bird dogs, have a successful business training hunting dogs and wrote a book about reward based hunting dog training.
We have a very interesting conversation about how the competition scene affects breeding, how it is to be a girl in another male dominated dog area and Ida gives us some refreshing tips about how to handle that situation.

We’ve been picking up a comment from one of our listeners about being new in dog sports and finding it hard to get the space and wiggle room to own your own training without offending your decoy, trainer or more experienced training buddies with boundaries or suggestions. How do we navigate the respect for the experience and the knowledge around us without having to give in and give up everything we want to try, believe in or see working?
Emma tried to spark an inspiring conversation about where in the world we want to live, but Tanya is neutral to everything and Alba wants her mom.Hosts:Emma @ravenk9dogtrainingAlba @saneisboringTanya @belgianfurmissile

We have Ann on, not to talk about her malinois Patty - the dog who she is the current world champion in PSA3 with - but her three offsprings; who are all bred, owned and trained by Ann; a fascinating experiment and an example of total, and a bit insane, devotion.
When will she even trial her younger dogs? What do we think about social media, why do Ann talk about her clients tits and is there electricity on the island we’re sending her to?
